Boston After School & Beyond is seeking STEM professionals who are interested in our volunteer opportunities to assist our diverse network of network of after-school and summer programs in providing additional STEM exploration opportunities for youth at these programs and/or STEM learning opportunities for staff at these programs to implement into their programs.
Volunteer Opportunities
STEM Career Conversations:
STEM professionals visit one or multiple programs in-person to facilitate an hour-long session with youth to briefly discuss their journey into STEM, engage youth in a hands-on activity as it relates to the STEM professional's work, and then a brief wrap-up/reflective discussion.
Time frame: Monday through Friday anytime between 3-6PM
Professional Development:
STEM professionals or STEM-based organizations facilitate 3-hour to multiple day sessions that cover STEM curriculum that program staff could implement into their program plans as well as sessions that address skills that are helpful to program staff, using STEM-based concepts such as the engineering mindset, design mindset, etc. These sessions are also structured under the "train-the-trainer" model, so that program staff can go back and train additional staff on the material.
Time frame: Monday through Friday any time between 9AM-2PM
